Verifying your business’s domain in Business settings is a way to help us confirm that you're connected to your business. Domain verification establishes which Business Account in Meta Business Manager has the authority to configure and prioritize the 8 available conversion events for a given domain. Learn more about configuring web events.

Note: If you optimize your ads for non-prioritized events, your ads may not deliver to people who opted-out of tracking in their Facebook or Instagram apps on an iOS 14.5 or later device. Learn more about using non-prioritized events for campaign optimization.

Domain verification is intended for primary domains, also known as the effective top level domain plus one (eTLD+1). Aggregated Event Measurement requires verification of the primary domain. Subdomains, or effective top level domain plus two (eTLD+2) cannot be verified for use in Aggregated Event Measurement. Learn more about domains in Aggregated Event Measurement.

You'll only need to verify subdomains when you're onboarding to Facebook Commerce.

Before you begin

  • You'll need to have a Business Manager account.

  • You'll need to be an admin of your Business Manager account.

  • You'll need to have admin or developer access to your domain.

Note: Business Account roles are gradually changing. Instead of roles, we will describe people’s access or the tasks they perform. For instance, Everything will replace Business admin, Basic will replace Employee, and Apps and integrations will replace Developer. The access itself will remain the same. Learn more about updates to Business Account roles.

Verify your domain in business settings

  1. Go to Domains in the Brand safety section of Business settings.

  2. Click Add to add a new domain.

  3. Enter in the root domain without any prefixes. For example, enter website.com, not www.website.com nor https://website.com.

  4. Click Add.

  5. Select one of the following options to verify your domain:

    • Add a meta-tag to your HTML source code

      1. Copy the meta-tag you see on your Business settings screen.

      2. Open your website’s home page HTML source.

      3. Paste the meta-tag into the <head>....</head> section of the HTML code, and publish the page.

      4. Go to the root domain of your website, and view the HTML source to confirm that the meta-tag is there.

    • Upload an HTML file to your root directory

      1. Download the HTML verification file that’s linked on your Business settings screen. Remember, don’t make any changes to the file after you download it.

      2. Upload the HTML file to the root directory of your domain.

      3. Go back to Business settings, and click on the link in step 3 to confirm that you can see the verification code on your website.

    • Update the DNS TXT record with your domain registrar

      1. Go to your domain registrar and log in.

      2. Go to the DNS records section.

      3. Go back to your Business settings screen and copy the TXT record in step 2.

      4. Add the TXT record in your DNS configuration by following the instructions from your domain registrar.

      5. Use a DNS TXT lookup tool to confirm the TXT record has been updated across your servers.

  6. Click Verify domain on your Business settings screen.

If we can’t verify your domain, you’ll see an error message. Learn more about how to troubleshoot if domain verification fails.

Once your domain has been verified, you can remove the meta-tags, DNS TXT records, and HTML files and it won’t impact your verification status.
